South Country Concerts |
Consistent with the Mission Statement of South Country Concerts an important activty is bringing music to the local schools. In 2006 South Country Concerts received a grant from the The South Country Education Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts to present the program to the children in the South Country School District.
A special program has been created for Children:Washable is a lonely teddy bear searching for the meaning of life. He asks the fly, rattlesnake, monkeys, butterfly, swan, bee, elephants and mouse "why are you here?" Three musicians playing violin, cello and piano narrate the story and take on different roles playing excerpts from the concert repertoire to represent each animal, thus letting the children hear that music can express what words cannot. At the end of the presentation there is an opportunity for questions and answers. The program is 30 minutes long and is suitable for primary school aged children.
